Every treasure hunter needs to have not the best tools, rather the basic tools. In the case of understanding the mysteries in the Bible a computer would be great but not necessary. The basic tools are the Bible itself, a relationship with Jesus of whom the Bible is written and understanding that the Holy Spirit WANTS YOU TO UNDERSTAND the Bible. Therefore, let us pull up a chair at The Captain’s table as He unfolds the mysteries!

DISCLAIMER even though some of the keys are similar to other prophecy discernment,in this chapter I am referring to understanding and unlocking WRITTEN PROPHECY that was recorded early in the scriptures and then later fulfilled. I am NOT explaining the New Testament gift of the Holy Spirit called a gift of prophecy nor am I explaining the New Testament Ministry Office of a prophet.

1. Key – The Testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy

To understand the book of Revelation and the fulfilled prophesies taking place, we must grasp these first eight verses of Revelation chapter one. This is not a revelation of just the “end times” it is the revelation of how Jesus Christ deals with the end times. It is ALL about Jesus!

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly (quickly) take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Revelation 1:1

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ… from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.” Revelation 1:1-5

Now let’s skip to the 19th Chapter to solidify this truth:

“For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Revelation 19:10

Just now, you have learned that every prophecy in the entire Bible is based in Jesus. Look for the testimony of Jesus in every prophecy and you will be on the most important point of that prophecy, which moves us into the next Key.

2. Key – The Kingdom of God Thread

And He (Jesus) said to them, “To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, Mark 4:11

In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10

-There are many “threads” of understanding that connect the entire Bible together. A thread is a Truth that starts in Genesis (Book of Beginnings) and weaves all the way through to the last Book of Revelation. An example would be; blood or blood sacrifices. In Genesis, Able’s offering to God was a blood sacrifice; from that time on we see this thread of a blood sacrifice weave all through the Bible until it reaches the Book of Revelation. Now let us look at the Kingdom of God which is the foundational thread that weaves throughout the entire Bible which everything Godly and eternal is built upon. Did you get that? Not the church, not professional clergy, not organized religion but The Kingdom of God.

We have discovered that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy, now let’s go deeper. Who is Jesus? He is King of the Kingdom of God. Therefore every prophecy will not only reveal the testimony of Jesus but of the very Kingdom He rules! Again:

-All Prophecies have their Foundational Root in Revealing God’s Kingdom. We must see through the lens of the one foundational stone by which all sixty-six Books of the Bible are built upon: The Kingdom of God, with Jesus as King. It is promised in Genesis “the book of beginnings” and is fulfilled in The Book of Revelation. Every book of the Bible is about The Kingdom of God with Jesus as King and the Prophetic Book of Revelation is the fulfillment of His Kingdom! So as we shine the light on prophecy think Kingdom, Kingdom, Kingdom and we will be well ahead.

3. Key – Prophecy comes from God the Holy Spirit

And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this first, that NO prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 1:19-21

Again my disclaimer from above – I am referring to prophecy that was recorded early in the scriptures and is now being fulfilled. There are people who claim they are prophesying “NEW” revelations about the end times and we are to discern and be aware of these false “sayings” that don’t come from The Holy Spirit of God, only from deceptive words of man generated from Satan himself. All prophecy comes from the Holy Spirit of God, not man.

4. Key – Prophecy fulfilled literally not figuratively

This is tremendously important as this key takes away the guessing or manipulation. With over 1000 prophecies recorded in the Bible, over 500 have already been fulfilled, and all of those have been fulfilled literally. Yes there is a tremendous amount of symbolism surrounding most all prophecy, but if all fulfilled prophecy has been fulfilled literally so far, we may be safe in saying the remaining prophecies will also be fulfilled literally.

John in the book of Revelation was instructed to write down what he saw; some things he understood some things he did not. The figurative parts of what John saw 2000 years ago are still common to us today i.e., a beast is a beast, a dragon is a dragon, the three unclean spirits like frogs are…you get it. When we get closer to the fulfillment of prophecy it is like a time release capsule and The Holy Spirit begins to release more and more understanding. The Book of Revelation is the last of the last! Therefore the closer history catches up to the present time, we begin to understand who the beast is literally, who the dragon is literally, and who the unclean spirits are literally! Enjoy the symbolism but look for the literal fulfillment. No more speculating.

5. Key of Mountain Tops – The prophets of old only saw visions of the things concerning Israel and God’s renewed Kingdom on earth. Everything revolved around the Jews and the Nation of Israel. I cannot express this enough. Israel was the people of God who were to rule and reign with Jesus as their King and bring Salvation to the world. Therefore the prophets were only shown events about Israel, there was no need to see things about Gentiles. Gentiles were not even considered a people group; Gentiles were just everyone who was not a Jew, therefore no special “Words” from God, were needed for them.

Mountain Top to Mountain Top Prophecy

The best illustration I have seen are the prophets of old looking forward, into the future and all they saw were a series of mountain tops. These mountain tops are all about Israel and God’s Kingdom. The prophets were given the gift to see the major future events of Israel revealed by each mountain top, this was their “perspective” if you will.

* Drum roll please: The question is what did the prophets NOT SEE? The prophets did not see the valleys, or the events not related to the; Jews, Israel or the restored Kingdom of God. The prophets did NOT SEE or SPEAK TO the Gentiles about any of their activity unless it was to inform a Gentile to do something that would affect Israel or the Jews. Later in this book I will give a detailed teaching on the mountain tops of Daniel’s 70 week prophecy in the Old Testament and Paul’s revelation of the Gentile unseen valleys in the New Testament.

6. God’s Calendar & Feasts of The Lord – The Bible calls these clues:

  • appointed Times, Feasts, Seed-time & Harvest
  • 28 day New Moon Month
  • Shemitha and Jubilee years.

These are what the Jews continued to practice for the 2000 years. Because the Jews continued in ALL of these appointed times we have God’s calendar and measurement of time miraculously intact today!

Feasts of The Lord: NOTHING IN HEAVEN OR EARTH HAPPENS OUTSIDE THESE FEAST!

-The feasts were given to the nation of Israel, as part of their law, to be celebrated each year. If you can think of a dress rehearsal of a dramatic performance, you will get the idea. Jesus will return to the earth at His Second Coming (Revelation 19) on the last Feast, which the Jews have been practicing or rehearsing every year for 2000 years!

– The feasts were first mention when Israel as a nation was preparing to leave Egypt in the Exodus, starting with the Passover and Unleavened Bread as mentioned in Exodus 12. After that the full instruction for all the feasts were given by God to Moses when the law was given at Sinai.

–  There are seven feasts specifically given by God to Moses as indicated in Leviticus chapter 23.

– The following are all the feasts in order: In English first followed by the Hebrew names in brackets:
Passover (Pesach), Unleavened Bread (Hag Hamatzot), First fruits (Hag HaBikkurim), Pentecost or Weeks (Shavuot), Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah), Atonement (Yom Kippur), Tabernacles (Succoth).

– The feasts are split into two groups that can be summarized as the spring feasts and then autumn (fall) feasts.

  • The four spring feasts are Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, and the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost.
  • The autumn feasts are Trumpets, Atonement and Tabernacles.
  • There is a gap of roughly four months in between the last of the spring feasts (Pentecost) and the first of the autumn feasts (Trumpets).

– God has given these feasts to foretell in advance the work of His Son, Jesus Christ, in specific relation to His death, resurrection and return. They are absolutely specific even giving the exact days of the year in which these events will occur. The gap separation seemingly signifies the time between the two comings of Jesus Christ.

7. Key – Prophetic announcing words and phrases

Prophecy words Old Testament:

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
(Isaiah 9:6-7)

Train yourself to SEE Prophetic words and phrases every time you read the Scriptures, then the understanding will be amazing!

Prophecy words New Testament:

“Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end. (Luke 1:30-33)
