Great for individual or group study.

But of that day and hour no one knows… Mark 13:32

So the point is:

And what I say to you, I say to all: WATCH!  Mark 13:37

Verse 1 – Then as He went out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!”

² And Jesus answered and said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down.”

(This prophecy was fulfilled by conquering Rome in 70 AD).

Heading – Questions of the Signs of the Times and the End of the Age

• NOTE #1 – Please put your mindset in the understanding that Jesus is speaking Jewish language to Jewish men who know the Jewish Torah.
• NOTE #2 – It is Paul the Apostle who explains in the letters to the Gentiles, the end time events “signs” which affect the Gentiles.

³ Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, ⁴ “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?”

WARNINGS:

⁵ And Jesus, answering them, began to say:

“Take heed that no one deceives you.

⁶ For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. ⁷ But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. ⁸ For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.

⁹ “But watch out for yourselves,

for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them.

Verse 10 – And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.

(This prophecy has been fulfilled; maybe not every individual but surely every nation).

¹¹ But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

(This prophecy has been fulfilled as on the Day of Pentecost the promise of the Holy Spirit was first a promise for the Jews).

 ¹² Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. ¹³ And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.

For us Gentiles, we need to understand that the next verse is such a basic Jewish understanding that it needs no explanation for them at all:

Verse 13b – But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

NOTE – The Jews have been conquered and endured before as they served: Pharaoh of Egypt, warred against the Philistines, in Babylonian slavery, Rome crushing their nation for 2000 years, Hitler’s massacre and now the coming seven years of tribulation. Jews believe that if only one of them make it to the end, they all win! Again this is Jewish language.
Heading – The Great Tribulation

Verse 14 – So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand)

• Then he (Anti-Christ, the new one world leader) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week (starting the 7 year tribulation).
  But in the middle of the week (three & a half years).
  He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
  And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate (Anti-Christ makes his own sacrifice and announces himself god) Daniel 9:27

Verse 14b – “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. (Again this is still at the three & a half year mark of the tribulation where the remaining National Israel Government goes into hiding and is protected by God for the remaining of the tribulation).

 ¹⁵ Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house. ¹⁶ And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. ¹⁷ But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! ¹⁸ And pray that your flight may not be in winter. ¹⁹ For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be. ²⁰ And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.

²¹ “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, He is there!’ do not believe it. ²² For false Christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. (Jesus’ second coming has not happened yet, still three and a half more years).

 ²³ But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand. (Jesus wants these Jews to know when He is coming back!)

Heading – The Coming of the Son of Man

²⁴ “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; ²⁵ the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. ²⁶ THEN they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. ²⁷ And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.

Heading – The Parable of the Fig Tree

²⁸ “Now learn this parable from the fig tree:

Jesus just cursed the fig tree before going into the temple because it should have had figs and didn’t; when they came out the fig tree is withered. The fig tree is always a “type” of gauge for National Israel; if the fig tree is producing, Israel is producing etc.

When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. ²⁹ So you also, when you see these things happening, know that it is near—at the doors!

What things? When the cursed fig tree or Israel becomes tender and puts forth leaves! Israel was cursed and lost its national status. 2000 years later in 1948 it was reinstated. This is the fig tree or Israel revived!

³⁰ Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. (Or all these things take place at the same time).

What generation? Our generation born around the year 1948 when Israel became a nation again!

 ³¹ Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

OK, get ready here it comes…

Heading – No One Knows the Day or Hour

³² “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

(What day and what hour?

Note – REMEMBER the message is STILL take heed, watch, pray!

³³ Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. ³⁴ It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. ³⁵ Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— ³⁶ lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.

³⁷ And what I say to you, I say to all:

Watch!

We are all (both Jew and Gentile) to be living with expectation! This is the message! If you think earth is your final destination and when you die it is just a dirt nap, you will selfishly live with no purpose other than pleasing yourself. On the other hand if you live in expectation of a future hope your life will be energized with destiny, giving and love! So let’s take heed, watch and pray!

Let’s take a quick look at Matthew 24:36-39

Heading – No One Knows the Day or Hour

³⁶ “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. ³⁷ But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. ³⁸ For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, ³⁹ and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Two types of people mentioned; Noah and family who believed and knew what was going to happen and the mockers who didn’t believe Noah’s message.

Don’t you think at the end of 100 years of building and Noah putting in the last piece of gofer wood on the ark that he and his family knew IT WAS TIME! OK maybe not the day or hour but when the animals started loading on their own IT WAS TIME! The same with us, everything is in place; IT IS TIME!

¹⁷ Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. ¹⁸ Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18

After studying this passage may I review and point out the specifics?

1. We are not going to know the exact Day, Hour, and Minute so…

Verse 33 –

• Take heed
• Watch
• Pray

Verse 37 –

• Again I say WATCH!

2. From the beginning: Jesus answered their question of timing:

Verse 3 –

When you see all of these signs happening at the same time.

Verse 10 –

Gospel preached to all nations.

Verse 11 –

Promised Holy Spirit given to the Jews on Day of Pentecost.

Verse 12 – Jews will be hated by all, even the USA (or whatever name it will have).

Verse 14 –

The last temple will be built, the one world leader will be in place and the Jews will go through the first half of the tribulation and enter into second half (or great tribulation) experiencing Daniel’s prophecy of the anti-Christ’s sacrifice called the abomination of desolation.

those who are in Judea (Israel’s government) flee to the mountains.

Verses 24-26 –

After the tribulation THEN JESUS RETURNS!

Verse 28 –

The return of the fig tree or National Israel STARTED IT OFF 1948!
