Changing what a Minister of God looks like in Pittsburg Kansas

This is our informal get-together every Tuesday to give updates in real time.

It is nice to see the sun melting all the snow. As most of you know I infiltrated my community as the guy who builds bird houses and garden benches. Sandy and I have worked hard to present ourselves as touchable neighbors in our community & to break the weird reputation of what a minister of God looks like. Saying that I just picked up 10-200 lbs. boxes of treated cedar wood used to make outdoor children’s big toys this week. Do you know the song – The Heavenly Vision?

The original hymn is “The Heavenly Vision,” written by Helen Lemmel in 1918, but it became famous by its chorus, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.”

Lemmel was inspired by a missionary tract: to focus on Christ to make worldly troubles seem dim, Lemmel, who was blind herself, penned the words and music after reading the message that resonated deeply to her, and it became a beloved standard. 

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.

Let me springboard off this song for a moment because in the past 4 – 5 years Sandy & I have asked each other the question:

“Are we boring?”

• We live a blessed life of Deuteronomy 20:5: our house is in order, our finances are in order, our relationships are in order & personal drama is at an all-time low.
• We live the lifestyle of 1 Thessalonians 4:11 we lead a quiet life, we mind our own business, and work with our own hands living on “daily bread.”

We just have very little desire for anything in this world.

• We are both good cooks making it hard to go to a restaurant.
• Entertainment of: sports, movies, dancing, live theater, fireworks, Just does not call to us.

It is as if we have been going through a separation from unfulfilling temporal things and events to things that are eternal.

We have been singing the very song The Heavenly Vision – Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” & the things on earth are growing strangely dim (unimportant).

Next week The Lord willing I would like to take a look at real eternal things we can put our hand to while we are still here on earth. Until then I would recommend you listen to the vide clip below and ask yourself of this is happening to you?
