TIPS TO STUDY THE BIBLE

The Bible was not written to us, it was written for us.

I read an article this morning and this title just grabbed me! So let’s expand on this truth.

1. The Old Testament was written to Jews under the Law. The New Testament begins with the gospels, which tell the story of Jesus’s ministry. Jesus was Hebrew, arriving on earth to be the Jews Messiah/King and His message was Jewish.

These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, preach, saying… Matthew 10:5-6

2. Gentile Woman

22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” 23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” 24 But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Matthew 15:22-24

3. No, the Bible was not written to us. But it was written for us. Even the Old Testament. As the Apostle Paul writes regarding God’s judgment of the Israelites:

Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things became our examples,

to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 1 Corinthians 10:1-11

As we are studying the Bible as a whole and The Book of Revelation in particilur, this is just one more amazing Key to unlock God’s powerful Truth for us!
