Prayer Part 2 – WHO ARE WE TALKING TO?

Can you remember the first book you ever bought with your own money? When I was in 7^th grade Jr High, now called Middle School, the “Book Fair” came rolling into the hallway and we were able to purchase books for our very own. I looked through shelf after shelf on each cart until I found the only one that I would spend money on:

I can almost hear you laughing! For some reason the girls that I use to easily play tag with, or playground softball and soccer now seemed different. I started getting embarrassed and stumbling all over myself and words would not form a sentence. I needed help, and there it was a book on How to talk to girls!

Perhaps this is how you feel about talking to God. Do you remember the first time you actually talked to God? It might have been around your dinner table and someone prayed over dinner. You might have bowed your head, maybe even folded your hands together and at the end of the prayer you might have said Amen. That was a prayer.

The first time I prayed to God, I was about 9 years old, all by myself playing trucks in the dirt, in my back yard. I just asked: “God are you real?” Without missing a beat a Kansas sunbeam seemed to shine like a spotlight right in my back yard. That was good enough for this little boy.

WHAT’S THE POINT YOU ASK? No one needs to teach you how to pray, it actually comes natural, but let me put a little scripture to what just happened.

Paul writing to the Hebrews was explaining how to approach God.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Do you see it? Who are we talking to? Inside of our being, we know there is God. My question was God are you real? My answer was YES.

When the first people on the earth talked to God, they didn’t have the Bible to guide them. At this time you may not have any understanding on HOW MUCH THE BIBLE has already influenced your life, but you don’t need the book to talk to God or know God. Even though in time, the Bible will reveal deeper, more powerful prayers than you could ever imagine.

Just flow with YOUR CONVERSATION. This is you talking to whom? God! Just start with the ONE WORD PRAYER, and let the conversation flow. Jesus……………..
